Apparu en 1916 et distribué pour la première fois en France lors des combats de Verdun, l'inventeur de son design est dû au Dr. Friedrich Schwerd et offrit au soldat allemand une bonne protection sans altérer son champ de vision.

En acier de 1,2mm d'épaisseur, embouti d'une pièce, offrant une protection complète avec sa nuquière, large visière. Par comparaison le casque français Adrian fut conçu en tôle emboutie de 0,7mm d'épaisseur.
De chaque côté entretoise permettant la fixation d'une plaque de renfort blindée, Stirnpanzer.
Peinture camouflante lisse à près de 100 % à dominante marron et revêtement blanchâtre.
Coiffe en cuir constituée de trois coussinets en cuir blanc (absence de l'un d'eux), rivetés sur un cerclage en fer lui-même retenu par trois rivets. Système de fixation de jugulaire semblable aux casques à pointe (jugulaire absente).
