In the shape of a truncated cone, made of strong cardboard covered with sky-blue cloth, bordered on the upper part with a 2.8 cm galloon woven in Hungarian point known as lizard galloon in golden passementerie, sides of the cap adorned with the same chevron-shaped galloon with sky-blue piping, black varnished leather chinstrap, front plate in gilded brass depicting a flaming grenade surmounting a banner bearing the inscription "ÉCOLE SPÉCIALE MILITAIRE." Tricolour enameled metal cockade. On the sides, sky-blue lacquered copper tombac ventilators.
False chin strap with a gilded and chiseled brass chin chain fastened by two rosettes stamped with a flaming grenade. Black varnished leather visor encircled by a gilded brass strip folded over the outer edge, green waxed interior.
Black leather interior cap, ocher leather-lined crown with the hat maker's seal "BARRAU À PARIS."
High-quality plume, called "Casoar," with drooping cock feathers, two-thirds white, one-third scarlet in its lower part.
