Autographed letter signed by soldier Pierre Martin, with address "To Mister Le Febvre, Mayor of the Commune of Lesay, Department of Manche, for collection in Périers". Dated Cologne, June 22, 1811.
Stationed in Codogne (Italy), Pierre Martin is forced to borrow money from his superiors, which he must of course repay, so he is requesting 200 francs to pay his debts. He describes his daily life.
[... in Italy, bread costs 5 sous per pound of twelve ounces, wine is 10 to twelve sous per bottle, the crops are good this year, wheat has been harvested, the vineyards were damaged by hail, the heat is very high this year, please do not forget to send money, pay yourself from what is due but send me my money ...].
