MILITARY MEDAL, created on January 22, 1852, 7th type, Third Republic. 25127

On the obverse, within a laurel wreath, a circle of blue enamel with the inscription "RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE - 1870" and a profile of the Republic; on the reverse, the motto "VALEUR ET DISCIPLINE".
The medal is topped with a trophy of arms symbolizing the French army from land and sea.
The reverse of the trophy is flat, without the back of the cuirass, connected to the medal by a ring.
Yellow ribbon bordered with a green trim.
Height 51 mm, width 27 mm.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND:
Created by Louis Napoléon, President of the Second Republic, to reward the exploits of non-commissioned officers and soldiers and compensate for the limited promotions that these personnel received in the Order of the Legion of Honor, it also exceptionally rewards Marshals and General Officers who have commanded in chief.
