PRE-REGULATORY PISTOL LA MOTHE HOUDANCOURT REGIMENT, MESTRE DE CAMP COMPANY, circa 1710-1713, Former Monarchy. 22864

This pistol features a long barrel with a walnut frame, hallmarked near the thumb piece with a fleur-de-lis, and all brass fittings. The barrel transitions from sides to round with an upper flat along its entire length up to the aiming point, engraved with the inscription “REG*DE*LA*MOTHE HOV. COMP MASTER*DE. CAMP N5", measuring 30.4 cm in length, with a total of 35.6 cm including the breech. It operates using a flintlock mechanism, with a flat body signed by the contractor "PENEL L'AISNE", and a hallmark showing a fleur-de-lys framed by the letters "S E". The pistol also features a flat-bodied gooseneck hammer, steel bassinet, and a counter-plate made of ornate cast brass depicting a flaming bomb in the style of the years 1700-1710. The brass thumb fitting is surmounted by a ducal crown, and the modified sous-garde has its end transformed into a fleur-de-lys. The total length of the weapon is 48.5 cm, with a caliber of 18 mm.

HISTORY:
The La Mothe-Haudancourt Regiment was established on November 19, 1703, by Charles-Louis, Marquis of La Mothe-Haudancourt, and was disbanded on December 10, 1713. The mestre de camp was incorporated into Chambonas, which later became the Royal-Navarre Regiment. This regiment participated in various campaigns including battles at Ramilies and Malplaquet, the capture of cities like Spire, Worms, and Landau in 1713, and engagements along the Rhine in 1711.

BIOGRAPHY:
Louis Charles de La Mothe-Houdancourt (1687-1755) was a French soldier of the 17th and 18th centuries and held various military positions, including serving in Flanders, being elevated to brigadier of the king's armies in 1719, and commanding the Aumont cavalry regiment in 1723. Louis Charles was also recognized with titles and honors throughout his military career.

Please note that this pistol is classified as a collectible ancient weapon and is non-functional, falling into category D2 for unrestricted possession.
