Le caporal Dantan à sa femme à Paris « A La Citoyenne Datan Demeurant chez le Vinaigrier rue du coeur volant en entrant à gauche par la rue des Boucheries fbg St Germain À Paris ». Il lui envoie un certificat qui lui permettra de toucher l'allocation que la Convention accorde aux femmes et enfants et l'informe de la situation sur place.
La lettre est envoyée depuis Saint-Sébastien le 7 fructidor an 2 (24 août 1794), le soldat a noté en entête « Guerre aux Tyrans, Paix aux Chaumières ».
« (...) nos succès sont à l'ordre du jour ; nos victoires se succèdent.. Bientôt le thrésor de l'armée enemie -dont nous nous sommes déjà rendus maîtres- va parvenir à Paris sous les yeux de la Convention.Quelle joie tu ressentirois en toi-même si tu voyois les richesses, les troupeaux de moutons, de boeufs, de chevaux, cochons, mulets (...) qui défilent à Bayonne (...) »
