Apparu en 1916 et distribué pour la première fois en France lors des combats de Verdun, l'inventeur de son design est dû au Dr. Friedrich Schwerd et offrit au soldat allemand une bonne protection sans altérer son champ de vision.

En acier de 1,2mm d'épaisseur, embouti d'une pièce, offrant une protection complète avec sa nuquière, large visière. Par comparaison le casque français Adrian fut conçu en tôle emboutie de 0,7mm d'épaisseur.
De chaque côté entretoise permettant la fixation d'une plaque de renfort blindée, Stirnpanzer.
Coiffe en cuir absente, présence du bandeau métallique ventilé introduit après mai 1917, et de deux des trois rivets de maintien du bandeau. Intérieur du casque rouillé.

Peinture camouflante mate, en bon état de conservation, composée de trois couleurs vertes, ocres et marrons, présentant des angles aigus et séparées par une épaisse ligne noire, offrant un aspect le plus irrégulier possible et un effet d’ombre.
