MUSICIAN HELMET OF THE PARIS GUARD, MODEL October 30, 1860, SECOND EMPIRE.
Helmet, visor, and neck guard made of steel sheet with brass fittings. Marked with a "L", registered "955", dated "72", and stamped with the supplier "DELACHAUSSÉE". The helmet has been re-drilled for the repositioning of the crest. This helmet was produced under the Second Empire but put into use at the time of the new 1872 model.
Copper visor and neck guard, each bordered by a bent strip on the outer edge.
Front band, model of April 5, 1853, embossed with the Imperial eagle holding Jupiter's thunderbolt in its claws shining over a ribbon embossed with the inscription "GARDE DE PARIS", with a radiant sun in the background. This band has been partially re-drilled, it is authentic but was remounted on the helmet afterwards.
Crest composed of two fins embossed with a series of decreasing oval medallions towards the back, separated by water leaves, feathers, and much smaller medallions; the top part is a twisted molding that also covers the back third of the lower part; a relief stamped mask of a laurel branch; a plain covering plate.
Crest decoration in brass consisting of an olive decorated with laurel leaves and small flowers, a similarly decorated socket, and a scarlet horsehair plume. Rear nut inside the helmet.
Scarlet horsehair mane at the back.
Non-model chin straps, they are for cuirassier or dragoon helmets, model 1845, with 8 interlaced straps and round rosettes embossed with laurel leaves.
Interior leather liner cut in wolf teeth pattern.
Good condition, light oxidation on the helmet.
