GREY MUSKETEER SURCOAT (1st company) OF THE KING'S MILITARY HOUSEHOLD, model 1814, RESTORATION PERIOD.
Made of dark blue wool, trimmed with a double gold braid.
The sleeve openings and bottom of the surcoat are adorned with a ruff made of dark blue wool edged with a folded gold braid sewn along the outer border.
A large gold embroidery depicting the cross of the Musketeers of the First Company is sewn at the center of the front and back parts. The cross consists of a cross ending in a fleur-de-lis at each of the four ends, with each corner adorned with three crimson wool flames edged with a gold thread embroidered stick.
Grey silk lining.
In good condition, with some moth holes.

NOTE:
Musketeer surcoats are extremely rare, with only two known examples in the collections of the Museum of the Army (one at the Hôtel des Invalides in Paris from the former DENIS collection, and one at the château de l'Empéri from the collections of Raoul and Jean BRUNON).
