THE INFANTRY FLAGS OF LOUIS XIV
History of the French infantry regiments and flags under Louis XIV.
This work, The Infantry Flags of Louis XIV, comprises 680 pages, with over 500 in color. Format 21 x 29.7 cm. Softcover. It is published by the French Club of Historical Figurines (CFFH).
This book presents the world of flags that marched on European battlefields for the glory of Louis the Great. It stands out significantly from other publications as it goes back to the original sources such as the Duvivier Manuscripts from 1718, Hermand 1721, and La Moskova.
The first part of the book recalls the wars led by Louis XIV, but most importantly presents the organization and functioning of his Infantry. The various works and authors who have studied these flags since the 18th century are introduced, providing historical guidance to the reader.
A second part is dedicated to the historical presentation of the Infantry Regiments and their Flags, based on various sources.
This exhaustive study, richly illustrated from original sources like the Duvivier Manuscript or Hermand, La Moskowa, immerses readers in the world of regiments and their flags that traversed European battlefields for the glory of Louis the Great.
Daniel Peyrot and Benoit Chomel de Jarnieu have known each other for over sixty years. However, they lost touch until recent circumstances brought them together to explore the possibilities of publishing the Atlas FOURE, a work from 1977 by the former member of the advisory board of the French Club of Historical Figurines (CFFH), which remained a draft.
The two authors then delved into the sources to offer us this work dedicated to the Infantry Regiments' Flags under Louis XIV.
This book distinctly sets itself apart from similar works as it also reminds readers of the Grand Roy's Armies and the battles they fought across Europe from 1643 to 1715, shaping France's borders.
Furthermore, the two authors chose to present the various works that have studied these flags since the 18th century, providing an overview of the subject.
Lastly, they detail the drawn versions from Duvivier, the Manuscript of Eu, Hermand, and Delaistre, with their differences.
