The Sabretache Journal, the organ of the Society "La Sabretache," is one of the major French publications dedicated to military history, uniformology, and the study of the French armies. Founded following the Retrospective Military Exhibition of 1889, the Society aimed to preserve the memories of the old French armies and to further the study of their history.
First Series: 1893-1969
Complemented by the indices 1893-1902 and 1903-1955.
This first series includes the first 440 issues, from January 1893 to December 1969.
New Series: 1970-2015
From 1970, the journal continued its publication under a new series dedicated to military history and the study of military collections, uniforms, weapons, equipment, flags, emblems, and regimental traditions.
This collection extends to the year 2015, providing almost uninterrupted documentation of military history for over 120 years. The issues from 2015 include studies on the evolution of the French uniform during World War I, the Saint Helena Medal, and the motorization of the French army between the wars.
The collection is extensively illustrated, featuring numerous reproductions, portraits, drawings, archival documents, and plates, including color plates, dedicated to uniforms, headgear, weapons, equipment, flags, and standards. The journal also covers regimental and corps history, campaigns and battles, military biographies, armament, cavalry, artillery, infantry, gendarmerie, as well as historical miniatures and militaria.
The diversity and continuity of the topics make it a first-rate documentary source for French military history, highly sought after by historians, uniformologists, militaria collectors, historical miniature enthusiasts, and specialized bibliophiles.
A RARE COLLECTION IN TERMS OF ITS CHRONOLOGICAL SPAN, spanning 1893-2015, covering over a century and two decades of publication. Particularly valuable for establishing or expanding a specialized library in military history and uniformology.
