OFFICER'S BRIDLE OF THE ROYAL HUSSAR GUARD, Restoration. 34532B
Entirely made of black patent leather with gilded bronze buckles and fittings.
The browband measures 24 cm by 4 cm in width; it is split at each end to form two straps of equal width and 36 cm in length. Each of these straps has a hole to accommodate the buckles of the bridle's uprights and throatlash. The browband was originally adorned with a gilded bronze chain.
The bridle's browband is 40 cm long and 3.5 cm wide, with each end folded over by 7 cm and sewn to create two 4.5 cm eyelets for the passage of the two rear straps of the browband. It is decorated with five cabochons: a central round cabochon (diameter 2.2 cm) depicting a flower, an oval cabochon on each side representing a flower (H 2.7 cm, width 1.5 cm), followed by a fleur-de-lis on each side.
The throatlash is adorned at each end with a rectangular buckle to accommodate the two rear straps of the browband. The cheekpiece represents a warrior's profile within a crescent shape (H 6 cm, width 6 cm).
Each side strap of the bridle is 35 cm long, adorned with a chain and at their upper and lower ends with a buckle and counter-buckle identical to those of the throatlash. The straps end in a rein-terret folded into the bit's rings.
The noseband, passing through the eyelets of the cheekpieces, measures 38 cm long and 4 cm wide at the front. It is decorated at the front with three cabochons identical to the central cabochons on the browband. On each side, it features a buckle and a counter-buckle identical to those on the throatlash.
The browband and noseband are connected by a headpiece consisting of two crossed leather uprights, 1.7 cm wide each, each adorned with a link. At the junction of these two uprights, a large leather patch (H 7 cm, W 6 cm) with an embossed plaque of the Arms of France.
