OFFICER'S HUSSAR BRIDLE, Consulate - First Empire. 34532A
Completely made of black patent leather with gilt bronze buckles and fittings.
The headpiece is 22 cm by 4.5 cm in width; it is split at each end to form two straps of equal width and length. Each of these straps is pierced with a hole to receive the buckles of the bridle's uprights and throatlash. The headpiece is adorned with a gilt bronze chain.
The browband of the bridle is 40 cm in length and 3 cm in width. Each end is folded back on itself by 6 cm and sewn to create two eyelets, each 4.5 cm wide, for the passage of the two rear straps of the headpiece. The browband is embellished with five round-shaped cabochons (1 cm in diameter) mounted on three leather discs with scalloped edges.
The uprights are decorated with buckles and counters; they end with a bit looped through the bit ring.
The noseband, passing through the two eyelets of the uprights, measures 42 cm in length and 2.5 cm in width at the front. It is also adorned with three cabochons like the browband. On each side, it is adorned with a buckle.
The browband and the noseband are connected by a headpiece composed of two leather uprights, each 2.1 cm in width, crossed, each decorated with three cabochons (at the lower part) or two (at the upper part) identical to those on the browband. At the junction of these two uprights, a large scalloped-edged leather disc measuring 6 cm in diameter carries a large cabochon (5.8 cm in diameter) representing the face of the sun on a radiating disc.
