SWORD OF THE GUARDS OF THE MONSIEUR'S BODYGUARDS, model 1814, Restoration period. 34372
Guard with four branches in gilded brass, main branch undecorated fixed to the pommel, the three secondary branches are plain and decorated at the bottom with a cinquefoil ending in an acanthus leaf, and at the top with an acanthus leaf emerging from a common stem to the three branches. Guard plate with a projecting edge, without a guard but ending in a fleur-de-lis shape and numbered underneath "40" (guard's number). Wooden handle, wrapped and covered with shagreen calf leather and a copper filigree. Scarlet cloth knot.
Curved blade with hollow and guttered edges, the obverse side is engraved with the motto "GARDES / DU / CORPS / DE / MONSIEUR" framed at the top and bottom by a fleur-de-lis, and near the heel by a military trophy. The other side is engraved with the Arms of Monsieur, a military trophy near the heel, and above, the face of the Sun on a radiant sun background. It is signed on the back "Royal Manufacture of Klingenthal May 1816". Length 93 cm.
Steel scabbard with an entry cup in steel, brackets, pins, and brass belt rings; the brackets are plain and framed with a simple raised molding (H 1.4 cm). Numbered on the back "32" and signed at the back "Manceaux". Steel chape in the shape of an ovoid button.
