NAVAL GUARD IMPERIAL "MARINE OF THE GUARD" SWORD, First French Empire (1804-1815). 34149

Fully brass sword with leather scabbard, the model of which was created in 1804 by the swordsmith DUC.

Guard with one carved branch (H 12.2 cm without guard, W 1.8 cm at the top, T 0.8 cm at the top and 1.1 cm at the bottom), outer ear-piece in the shape of shields (H 5.35 cm, W 4.6 cm, T approximately 2/3 mm) engraved with an anchor (H 4.70 cm, W 2.9 cm), the guard branch ends with a ball quillon (H 4.5 cm, W 4.5 cm, T 1.7 to 0.8 cm, diameter approximately 1.6 cm). The hilt is carved below.
Cap with short tail (H 8.8 cm, W 3.9 cm max, T 3.4 cm max).
Wooden handle (L 4 cm, T 2.4 cm), covered in leather, wrapped with a straight brass wire (diameter approximately 1.5 mm).
Two small unreadable stamps struck on the quillon.
Klingenthal blade of 70.4 cm long, 4.1 cm at the base and 7.2 cm at the arrow, back thickness at the base about 1 cm, with a strong tip bevel.
The hollow sides are engraved on each face with "IMPERIAL GUARD" in large cursive letters (H about 2.1 cm, W 9 cm) in a rope cartouche, anchor, and palm leaves (outer W 22.7 cm, outer H 2.7 cm).
Length of the weapon alone 85 cm, weight 0.966 kilograms.
Wooden scabbard sheathed in black waxed leather (width at the top 4.9 cm, T at the top 2.1 cm), brass fittings, chape (outer H 11.5 cm and inner 9.5 cm, W 5.2 cm, T 2.1 cm), central bracelet (outer H 8.8 cm and inner 4.6 cm, W 5.2 cm, T 2 cm), locket (outer H about 23 cm and inner 20 cm, W 4.7 cm, T 1.7 cm); brass dart (H 11.2 cm, T 0.4 cm), brass rings. Brass belt ring studs (H 1.3 cm, W 1.5 cm), brass rings (outer diameter 3.1 cm, T 0.35 cm). Scabbard well stamped with a marine anchor placed on the edge of the inner side of the scabbard.
Scabbard length alone 73.5 cm, weight 0.481 kilograms.
