FOREST GUARD'S DRESS SHAKO, Second Empire. 32344
Body and top in cardboard fully covered with black oilcloth, H at the front XX cm, H at the back XX cm. Top diameter XX cm. Rounded visor, black polished leather with green waxed underside, stitched to the top. Interior lining in black varnished calf leather cut into nine wolf teeth. Cardboard frame with a black ink printed label glued to the bottom: "BABIN, master hatter, Place Stanislas, 14, in Nancy, supplier to the forest school." In the bottom left corner of the label is the printer of the label: "Lith. Nicolas. P.d. Casino Nancy."
Double pompom in aurore and dark green wool.

NOTE: In several original photos dating from the Second Empire, it is noted that the forest guards of that time wore this dress shako made of oilcloth for everyday service, without any distinctive markings, as well as the students of the imperial forest school, similar to other oilcloth shakos of the army during the Second Empire.
