OFFICER'S SHAKO OF THE 1st ENGINEER REGIMENT, model 1860, Second Empire. 32345
Body made of cardboard covered with black velvet (15 cm high at the front, 19.5 cm at the back), trimmed at the top with a 3 cm wide golden braid and at the bottom with a 2.5 cm wide black varnished leather strip. On each side of the shako, a V-shaped golden braid with a black piping is fixed. The crown is made of black varnished leather, 13.5 cm in diameter. The round leather visor, 5.5 cm wide, is varnished black on top and waxed green underneath. The frontal plate is made of gilded brass, stamped and cut with a cuirass and a helmet on top, a bombshell with the number "1", a sword, an axe, oak and laurel branches (dimensions of the plate 12.7 cm in height, 12.8 cm in width). The metallic cockade is stamped with a radiant sun, painted in tricolor (Ø 4.9 cm). Double scarlet wool pompom (8 cm high). The inner lining consists of a band of waxed brown leather topped with a white silk cap.
The shako is presented in its wooden transport box with brown leather laces.
