SWEDISH NAVY OFFICER'S SABRE, model 1878 modified 1915, First World War. 32659
Gilt bronze hilt. Guard with a wide branch forming a shell decorated with volutes on a sandblasted background and an oval medallion molded with the three Swedish crowns with a centrally placed crowned anchor, on a horizontally striped background. Folding counter-guard engraved "2083 / -5440". Cap with a long tail decorated in the shape of a lion's head. Brass ferrule. Handle in wood covered with black calf leather filigreed with brass. Brown leather knot. Straight blade with hollow and grooved edges, length 75 cm, signed at the heel "E. SVALLING / ESKILSTUNA", decorated two-thirds of the way with acid etched military trophies, plant motifs, and a motto; on the other side, military trophies with a star on a radiant background. Black varnished leather scabbard with three gilt brass fittings with cut edges decorated with geometric moldings. Chape with a ring and belt loop in gilt brass. Central fitting without a suspension attachment in accordance with the 1915 modification. The tip of the scabbard is finished with a cut-dard in the shape of a lyre.
