OFFICER'S SABER OF THE PRUSSIAN NAVY, model 1874, Late 19th - Early 20th century. 32652
Gilt bronze hilt. Guard with a wide branch forming a shell decorated with scrollwork on a sandblasted background, with a molded medallion of a fouled anchor topped by the Prussian imperial crown. Folding counter-guard. Pommel with a long tail shaped like a lion's head with ruby and emerald eyes. Ferrule decorated with scrollwork. Horn handle with brass filigree. Brown leather knot. Slightly curved blade with hollow edges, length 71 cm, signed at the base by the Eickhorn firm, acid-etched on both sides with a warship, vegetal decoration, and a fouled anchor topped by the imperial crown. Black varnished leather scabbard with three gilt brass fittings, the inner edges cut into festoons and decorated with lines. Chape and central fitting with gilt brass stud and ring for the suspension strap. The tip of the scabbard finished with a blade shaped like a lyre.
