NAVAL OFFICER'S SWORD - DUTCH NAVY, Mid-19th century. 32649
Sword inspired by the French model 1837-1843.
Brass hilt with a guard featuring two branches forming an openwork shell at the front, decorated with vegetal motifs including reeds and a crowned anchor. Scallop-shaped pommel. Cap with a long tail decorated with flags, oak leaves, and medallions. Handle made of bone. Black leather knot. Slightly curved blade with a ribbed back, length 69.2 cm. Black varnished leather scabbard with three brass fittings. Chape decorated with a crowned anchor on a background of flag bundles, with the belt button engraved with a scallop shell. Brass belt loops and rings. Central fitting adorned with prominent moldings and guilloché patterns. Scabbard tip with a brass shoe.
