Made of almost black dark blue wool cloth. Braid and cords in golden threads. Cockade in tricolor passementerie sewn on the front and held in place by a small module demi-grelot brass button with a star stamped on a background of lightning bolts. Round visor in black patent leather lined with black waxed sheepskin with a folded and stitched black patent leather trim on the outer edge. Black silk interior marked with a branding iron “COIFFURES D'UNIFORME / L. TRÉZEL / 48. Rue du Temple / PARIS.” Inner band in black waxed leather. False gold braid chinstrap held to the band by two small uniform buttons.
