Order established in 1897.
Cross in gilded silver with five double-pointed white enameled branches, each angled with seven rays. Center of the obverse enameled blue with a golden royal crown encircled by a gold border. Reverse enameled blue with two intertwined L's, gold border. Suspension loop in the shape of a crown with two laurel enameled branches connected by a ribbon. Suspensory ring intricately carved with laurel leaves.
Moire purple ribbon.

Presented in its cardboard case covered with burgundy paper and adorned with the royal Crown insignia with the inscription "Lieutenant General Denis / Minister of National Defense / to / Major B.E.M. DE SCHRYVER / 1939." Gilded brass clasp. Interior lined with white silk and ochre velvet.

BIOGRAPHY:
Staff-Colonel Jean Baptiste de Schryver (1893-1945).
A member of the Belgian Legion from 1940, which later became the A.S. - Secret Army, he was a resistant. Suspected of espionage and illegal possession of weapons, he was arrested in Brussels on September 2, 1943, for "Feindbegünstigung" (aiding the enemy) along with the entire headquarters of Zone IV of the Secret Army, covering Brabant and consisting of 10,000 men. Deported to multiple camps, and ultimately to Gross-Rosen in Silesia, he was deemed unfit to be transported during the evacuation of the concentration camp and passed away on April 9, 1945, due to pleurisy.
