Gilt brass hilt. Guard with four engraved branches of acanthus leaves. Pommel with a short tail engraved with two laurel branches and a flower. Black lacquered horn handle with copper filigree. Quillon decorated with two applied silver stars. Ferrule decorated with laurel leaves. Scarlet cloth knot. Straight blade with a wide central flat, 85 cm long, engraved at the base with the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Castile and the inscription on one side "Fabrica de Toledo ano de 1866," and on the other side "À mi hijo Jacinto / Dastugue H." Iron scabbard with two suspension rings.

BIOGRAPHY:
General Hyacinthe DASTUGUE (Elisabeth-Jean-Hyacinthe-Dominique). Born on July 8, 1827 in Maubourguet (Hautes Pyrénées).
Voluntary recruit assigned to the 10th battalion of chasseurs à pied on November 22, 1845, assigned as spahis on June 16, 1848, to the 2nd Spahi Regiment. Second lieutenant on May 7, 1851, detached to Arab Affairs from June 17, 1852, to January 28, 1860.
Captain in the 2nd Spahi Regiment on January 12, 1856.
Major on November 30, 1859, out of staff and head of the Arab bureau in Tlemcen from November 30, 1859, to January 28, 1860, superior commander of the Sebdou circle (Algeria) from January 28, 1860, to April 28, 1863, superior commander of the Nemours circle (Algeria) from April 28, 1863, to October 7, 1863, detached to Arab Affairs and director of the Arab Affairs of the Oran brigade from October 7, 1863, to January 15, 1869.
Lieutenant colonel on June 17, 1865, assigned to the 11th Chasseurs on January 15, 1869.
Colonel on October 15, 1869, commanding the 11th Chasseurs in the Army of the Rhine in the 1st brigade of Cavalry Division Duhesme, in the 1st Army of the Loire as brigade commander of cavalry in the 15th corps.

Died in Bastia on January 16, 1880, at the age of 52.
