HISTORICAL BACKGROUND:
Armand LEBRUN, Baron and later Count of La Houssaye, born in Paris on October 20, 1768, died on June 19, 1846, was a French general of the Revolution and the Empire.
[...] He served "with distinction" during the campaigns from 1792 to the 4th year in the armies of the North and Moselle, was appointed squadron leader on February 27, 1793, and ceased his duties as aide-de-camp on March 15 of the same year to join the 3rd Hussar Regiment at the same rank. He distinguished himself in the battles of Carlsberg and Kaiserslautern in the 2nd year. On the 2nd day of Nivôse of that same year, at Froeschwiller, he commanded the regiment and was the first to lead it into an enemy redoubt. In that same action, he compelled 1,500 Hungarian grenadiers to surrender, captured 28 cannons, and was wounded by a shot from a small cannonball in his right foot. [...]
