BIOGRAPHIES:
Giuseppe LAHOZ Ortiz (or Giuseppe La Hoz), born in Lombardy in 1766 and died in Ancona on October 13, 1799, was an Italian general.
Napoleonic General
In the Jacobin army, Lahoz became commander of the Napoleonic Lombard Legion, and after distinguishing himself during the suppression of the Venetian insurrection, he was appointed brigade general of the Cisalpine Army (April 1797). After the Treaty of Campo Formio (October 17, 1797), he became one of the most fervent defenders of democracy and opposed French policy in Italy: he was one of the main opponents of the coup d'état by the French ambassador in Milan, Claude-Joseph Trouvé (August 30, 1798), and he went to Paris to protest against the Directory's policy towards the Cisalpine Republic.
Insurgent
In May 1799, disappointed by the French, Giuseppe Lahoz left the French army and joined the anti-French rebels in the Marches, where he became their leader. Under Lahoz's leadership, the Marches insurgency took on the appearance of a regular war, notably due to the arrival on May 17, 1799, of a Russo-Turkish fleet off the coast of Ancona, where the French army of General Jean-Charles Monnier had taken refuge. Lahoz died on October 10, 1799, from wounds received in combat during a sortie by the besieged French. Lahoz was one of the founders of the Società dei raggi.
Jean LANDRIEUX - 1755-1825
