HISTORICAL CONTEXT:
The 7th infantry regiment (7th RI) is an infantry regiment of the French Army created during the Revolution from the Champagne regiment, a French regiment from the Ancien Régime, one of the Six Great Old Regiments. Its marching song was "Auprès de ma blonde."

* Charles Pierre François Augereau, born on October 21, 1757, in Paris and died on June 12, 1816, in La Houssaye-en-Brie (Seine-et-Marne), was a French general later elevated to Marshal of the Empire and Duke of Castiglione.
[...]
A fierce Jacobin, he joined the National Guard and became a sergeant. Promoted to captain and then lieutenant colonel, he took part in suppressing the Chouan uprising in Brittany. He then joined the Eastern Pyrenees Army under General Jean-Antoine Marbot (1754-1800) and was quickly promoted to divisional general on December 23, 1793. His division further distinguished itself when transferred to the Army of Italy in 1795, where it participated in the Battle of Loano.
