The letter from Joseph Dublondin, a Guadeloupean citizen, is addressed to the First Consul: "Joseph Dublondin, a man of color from Guadeloupe, has the honor to reiterate the request he made to you through his petition, which he was fortunate enough to present to you on the 5th of this month, imploring your justice to grant him, like his unfortunate comrades, the rights that the law accords to the refugee colonists [...] .
Signed: Dublondin, Rue de Soly, Hôtel de Thurin".
Apostille signed by AUGEREAU in the margin of this letter, Paris 16 messidor an IX (5 July 1801): it attests that citizen Dublondin has shown the greatest bravery in the Army of the Eastern Pyrenees and solicits the benevolence of Bonaparte.
"The Chief General Augereau attests that the Cen (citizen) Joseph Dublondin has shown the greatest bravery in the Army of the Pyrenees ... he distinguished himself particularly on several occasions and for this reason, recommends him to the benevolence of the First Consul.
