FINNISH NAVY OFFICER SWORD, Circa 1920-1930. 32658
Gilt bronze hilt. Two-branch guard forming an openwork shell with a perforated Finnish lion. Cap with long tail decorated with lines. Pommel in the shape of a royal crown. Bakelite handle, brass wire filigree. Plain ferrule. Straight blade with grooves, 83.2 cm long, nickel-plated and signed at the heel with the logo of the firm "Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Cie." Natural leather knot.
Black polished leather scabbard with three gold-plated fittings decorated with lines and scalloped edges. Chape and central mount with stud and carrying ring. Tip of the scabbard finished with a lyre-shaped cutout dart.

Very good condition, some rubbing on the scabbard varnish.
NOTE:
This model of sword was adopted upon Finland's independence after World War I. It was designed by the Finnish artist Akseli Gallen-Kallela, inspired by Prussian military swords. It is the scabbard that distinguishes the sword's affiliation with the Navy.
