OFFICER'S SWORD OF THE ROMANIAN NAVY, Early 20th century. 32663
Gilt bronze hilt. Guard with two branches forming a pierced shell with a naval anchor topped by the royal crown, filed down after Romania fell under Soviet influence, framed by foliage branches. Guard branch decorated with foliage. Quillon in the shape of a dolphin head. Pommel with a long eagle head-shaped finial. Handle in wood covered with ivory-colored celluloid, called trolon, with brass filigree. Ferrule decorated with foliage. Curved blade with grooves, length 69.9 cm, nickel-plated and acid-etched on each of its faces.
On the front face, decoration of sailing warships, foliage, and the Arms of Romania (which were filed down during the Soviet era). On the other side, identical decoration with a marine anchor at the center and near the tang, the signature of the sword cutler "Carl Eickorn Solingen."
Black varnished leather scabbard with three golden brass fittings. Chape with a knob and suspension ring, decorated with foliage and a marine anchor, with a button for belt suspension. Central fitting with knob and suspension ring similarly decorated as the chape. The tip of the scabbard decorated with foliage and ending with a dart cut in the shape of a lyre.
