Gilt bronze hilt. Guard with one branch forming a decorated solid shell with an oval medallion of a crowned naval anchor surrounded by large volutes. Pommel with a long lion head-shaped tail. Folding counter-guard. Grip made of wood with gray sharkskin filigreed with copper. Slightly curved blade, flat, with a ridged back, length 76.1 cm, engraved on one side with an acid-etched image of a warship with sails and a military trophy with a cannon, and on the other side with a plaque inscribed with "PORTUGAL" framed by a rich vegetal pattern with a naval anchor and a sailing naval vessel. Black varnished leather scabbard with three gilt brass mounts engraved with geometric patterns. The chape is engraved with a naval anchor. Gilt bronze rings and fittings. The tip of the scabbard is shaped like a lyre.
