Gilt brass hilt. Two-branch guard forming an openwork shell with vegetal decoration and a naval anchor. Quillon shaped like a sea monster. Upper part of the guard branch openwork for the passage of the sword knot. Pommel with a long tail decorated with foliage and a series of scallop shells. Horn grip. Brass ferrule decorated with lines. Curved blade with ridge, length 74.5 cm, acid-etched with a rich vegetal decoration, a sun face, and a military trophy on the first half, stamped at the base with the oval stamp of François Backes and Delacourt with a sword and helmet with plume and the initials "FBD." Black varnished leather scabbard with three brass fittings decorated with lines. Chape adorned with an added anchor, with brass suspension ring and belt loop ring, and a ring for attachment to the belt. Central fitting with brass suspension ring and belt loop ring. Scabbard tip with a lyre-shaped cut brass drag.
