REPRODUCTION OF A MARSHAL OF FRANCE BATON, Second Empire. 33709
Made of metal, covered with royal blue velvet, decorated with twenty brass appliqué eagles (each eagle measuring 3.5 cm x 2.7 cm). The baton is finished at each end with gilt metal tips; one tip bears the raised inscription "TERROR BELLI DECUS PACIS" (translated as "Terror in war, honor in peace" in French, which is a Latin phrase engraved on Marshal of France batons. It is the motto of the de Contades family) with a laurel leaf crown and an uncrowned imperial eagle at its end; the other tip is engraved with "29 JULY 1866 S.M. EMPEROR NAPOLEON III / TO MARSHAL LEON AUBERT D'AZOUDANGE", and on its end is a raised relief medallion of the Imperial Coat of Arms.
Total length of the baton is 48.5 cm, tip diameter 5.5 cm, baton diameter 5 cm.
