PAIR OF SHOULDER EMBELLISHMENTS BELONGING TO BRIGADE GENERAL CAMILLE LOUIS ARTHUR DE FRANCE, Third Republic (1884-1889). 33754

Embroidered with twisted frizz and golden sequins. The body is embroidered with a design representing an inverted V-shaped braid bordered by a scalloped framing rod on a dark blue, almost black woolen cloth; shield decorated with a scalloped edge, adorned with two silver metal stars. Fringes in thick matte twists. The outline is composed of three turnings: a large one in matte cord and shiny spun thread alternately rolled on a cotton core; a second interior one in small twisted matte Milanese, mixed with another simple shiny one; a third, of the same work, is applied below the thick one, at the beginning of the fringe. 1872 uniform button (half-domed, gilded with a matte finish, stamped and embossed with a trophy formed by flags and a shield crowned with a star, topped with a helmet), attached at the top of the epaulette body, a strong gilded brass clasp marked "BIDAL RUE DE RICHELIEU 3 PARIS" is placed below, at the corresponding part. Black velvet lining.

Transport box made of wood covered with dark green paper, interior upholstered in burgundy velvet marked in gold with "E. Bidal / 3 Rue de Richelieu / PARIS." Brass handle and closures.

BIOGRAPHY:
Camille Louis Arthur de FRANCE, born on 10/8/1833 at Chateau de Rochefuret (near Tours) in Ballan-Miré.
Entered ESM in 1851, graduated 15th out of 230. Appointed as a sub-lieutenant in 1853 in the 23rd Infantry Regiment, entered the EM school in 1854.
Ranked 18th out of 30, appointed as Lieutenant and assigned to complete his infantry training in the 54th Ri in Africa where he stayed for two years. Participated in the Kabylie expedition in 1857 where he distinguished himself in the battle of Icheriden on 24/6/1857 (wound on the right cheek), and again on 2/8/1857. Mentioned in the army orders, Knight of the Legion of Honor. In 1857, he completed his cavalry training with the 2nd Carabiniers.
Promoted to Captain in 1857. During the campaign in Italy, he was assigned to the EM of the cavalry division of the 1st CA (General Desvaux) engaged in the Battle of Solferino. Medal of Italy, Military Valor of Savoy. Upon returning from Italy, he was appointed as an aide-de-camp to General de Salignac Fénelon, successively commanding in Caen, and then the first cavalry brigade of the Guard (1862). Promoted to Captain of the first class in 1866, he was assigned to the EM of the Place de Paris in 1866. In 1869, he moved to the general EM of the 1st CA.
War against Germany: Departed on campaign on July 16, 1870, with the general staff of the Army of the Rhine, he was made an officer of the Legion of Honor on September 5, and then captured on October 28 in Metz.
Returned to France on March 14, 1871, and on March 31, he was placed under the command of General Ducrot, leading the troops organizing in Cherbourg, where he was promoted to Commandant on April 20, 1871. Moved to the staff of General Clinchant commanding the 5th corps of the army of Versailles on April 20, he participated in the campaign against the Commune.
In September 1871, he joined the staff of the Minister of War, attached to the second bureau, then deputy secretary to the commission for the reorganization of the staff service. In April 1874, he was sent to Austria to examine the use of railways. Nichan Iftikar (1876)
Promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in 1875, he became the chief of the fourth bureau in 1877. Involved in defining the studies conducted at the ESG regarding stage service, railways, and transportation. He also conducted lectures on these subjects.
Colonel in 1879, he was appointed as the deputy chief of the general EM of the Ministry of War. Commander of the Order of Leopold of Austria (1881). In 1883, he was appointed as the chief of the EM of the 1st CA.
Brigade General in 1884.
Division General in 1889, he was appointed to the EM Committee (President in 1894). In 1890, he took over the command of the 4th Infantry Division. Commander of the Legion of Honor in 1891. Commanded the 1st CA in 1893. Intervened during the strikes in the North in 1893. Grand Officer of the Legion of Honor in 1895. Member of the CSG in 1896. He had a horse riding accident during the army maneuvers in 1897. Inspector of the army in 1898.
Placed in reserve in 1898.
Died in 1906.
