In black "flamand" felt emphasized with a wide gold braid known as the "general's edge", scalloped crest, woven with a double branch of oak with its fruits; black curly ostrich feather sewn inside the two edges; braid formed of three matte gold twisted cords, doubling around a golden large model 1872 general uniform button (half-rounded, burnished and matte gold, embossed with a trophy of flags and a shield stamped with a star, surmounted by a civic crown), tricolor cockade with Ø 7.5 cm. Ivory silk inner lining marked in gold "E•BIDAL / 3• rue de Richelieu / Paris". Band in lacquered ochre calfskin with an ivory silk ribbon.
Length 45.5 cm - width 15.5 cm - H at the button side 9 cm, H at the back 13 cm.

Presented in its wooden transport box covered with brown paper, burgundy velvet lining marked in gold "E•BIDAL / 3• rue de Richelieu / Paris".
Brass handle and lock.

BIOGRAPHY:
Camille Louis Arthur de FRANCE, born on 10/8/1833 at Rochefuret Castle (near Tours) in Ballan-Miré.
Entered the Special Military School in 1851, ranked 15th out of 230. Appointed as a second lieutenant in 1853 to the 23rd Infantry Regiment, entered the EM school in 1854.
Ranked 18th out of 30, promoted to Lieutenant and assigned to his infantry training at the 54th Ri in Africa where he stayed for two years. Took part in the Kabylie expedition in 1857 where he distinguished himself in the battle of Icheriden on 24/6/1857 (wounded on the right cheek), and again on 2/8/1857. Mentioned in army dispatches, Chevalier of the Legion of Honor. In 1857, he completed his cavalry training with the 2nd carabiniers.
Promoted to Captain in 1857. During the campaign in Italy, he was assigned to the EM of the cavalry division of the 1st Army Corps (General Desvaux) engaged in Solferino. Medal of Italy, Military Value of Savoy. Upon his return from Italy, he became an aide-de-camp to General de Salignac Fénelon, successively commanding at Caen, then the first cavalry brigade of the Guard (1862). Promoted to Captain of the first class in 1866, he was assigned to the EM of the Paris garrison in 1866. In 1869, he moved to the General Staff of the 1st Army Corps.
War against Germany: Departed for the campaign on July 16, 1870, with the general staff of the Rhine army, he was made an officier of the Legion of Honor on September 5, then became a prisoner on October 28 at Metz.
Returned to France on March 14, 1871, he was placed at the disposal of General Ducrot, commander of the organizing troops in Cherbourg where he was promoted to Chief Squadron Leader on April 20, 1871. Transferred to the staff of General Clinchant, commander of the 5th corps of the Versailles army on April 20, he took part in the campaign against the Commune.
In September 1871, he joined the general staff of the Minister of War, attached to the second bureau, then deputy secretary to the reorganization commission of the general staff service. In April 1874, he was sent to Austria to investigate railway usage. Nichan Iftikar (1876).
Promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in 1875, he became head of the fourth bureau in 1877. Participated in defining the studies conducted at the Special School of War regarding the service of stages, railways, and transport. He also lectured on these subjects.
Colonel in 1879, he was appointed deputy chief of the general staff of the Ministry of War. Order of Leopold of Austria (1881). In 1883, he was appointed Chief of Staff of the 1st Army Corps.
Brigade General in 1884.
Divisional General in 1889, he was appointed to the General Staff Committee (President in 1894). In 1890, he took command of the 4th Infantry Division. Commander of the Legion of Honor in 1891. Commanded the 1st Army Corps in 1893. Played a role during the strikes in the North in 1893. Grand Officer of the Legion of Honor in 1895. Member of the Supreme War Council in 1896. He suffered a horse riding accident during the army maneuvers of 1897. Inspector of the army in 1898.
Retired in 1898.
Passed away in 1906.
