Varnished walnut stock. Barrel, lock, hammer, butt plate all made of steel, each well-stamped with control marks. Muzzle-loading with percussion ignition.
Straight butt plate. Straight stock, with a prominent cheek on the left side. Manufacturer's name stamped on the top flat of the breech "Carl Heiser", double-headed eagle and W stamp at the same level.
Folding rear sight with range graduation, pivoting around an axis.
Distinctive shaped front sight specific to the weapon.
Round and octagonal barrel at the breech, rifled interior. Steel ramrod.
Total length of the weapon 134 cm, barrel length 95 cm, caliber 54.

Note: iconic weapon of the Austrian army during the Battle of Magenta in 1859, imported in large numbers by both sides during the American Civil War. Surpassed during the Battle of Sadowa in 1866 against Prussia.
