KING'S BODYGUARD SABER, model 1814, Restoration. 33677
Gilt brass hilt. Guard with four branches forming a shell decorated with the Arms of France under a royal crown and on a background of flags and branches of oak and laurel. Cap with a long tail. Handle made of wood covered with gray shagreen and a double braid of silver filigree. Plate stamped with the "B" under a star of the inspector E.L. Borson, August 1814 to September 1816, from the Klingenthal Manufacture, and with a "B" under a fleur-de-lys in a circle of rings, hallmark of J.G. Bick used during the First Restoration from April 1814 to March 1815.
Blade with hollow edges, 93.7 cm long, engraved with a weapons trophy, two fleur-de-lis, and the inscription "GARDES DU CORPS DU ROI." on one side, and on the other side with a trophy of the Arms of France and a radiant sun with a face. Spine engraved "Manufre Rle du Klingenthal August 1814.", stamped at the base with the "B" under a star of the inspector E.L. Borson, August 1814 to September 1816, and with the "B" surrounded by laurel branches of the 1st class controller J.G. Bick, 1812 to May 1815. Scarlet cloth tie.
First model 1814 scabbard in black varnished leather with three gilt bronze fittings decorated with traits, central fitting, and scabbard tip stamped similarly to the plate. Gilt brass rings, scabbard tip with a steel dart cut in the shape of a lyre.
