MARINE ISSUE REVOLVER, model 1873 first series caliber 12 mm, Third Republic. 33601
Six-shot revolver, 12 mm caliber, centerfire percussion. Made of steel with a polished white finish. The front part of the conical barrel has a front sight, the middle part is octagonal, engraved on the top flat "Mle 1873 M (modified)" and on the other flats the initials "M J" and a marking "S 1878". Detachable from the right intermediate flat is the front part of the rod case. The cylinder has six chambers milled for the 12 mm caliber, symmetrically placed around a cylindrical channel where the cylinder axis is engaged. Iron butt ring with pivot and pin. The frame is engraved "Mre d'Armes St Étienne". Various St Étienne Arms Factory stamps on the cylinder and the frame, as well as "M". All parts are marked "3288", the butt cap is stamped with a naval anchor. Checkered walnut wood grip panels.

The 1873 marine revolvers are divided into two orders: the first from 1877 to 1886 in 12 mm caliber, and the second from 1886 to 1887 in 11 mm caliber. Only the first order bears the modified "M" stamp.
