"I certify that Citizen Jean Genin fils, native of Verdun, district of the aforementioned department of Meuse, served in the 3rd Battalion of Volunteers of Meuse as a corporal quartermaster, from September 2, 1791 until May 18, 1793, that he participated in the last campaign, and that throughout his activity he displayed the courage and bravery that characterize a true republican, that at all times, he earned the esteem of his superiors and comrades, and that he only left his post to join as an officer the 53rd infantry regiment, in witness of which I have given him this present certificate.
