FINE SWORD OF THE 1ST COMPANY OF THE KING'S MILITARY HOUSE MUSKETEERS, model 1762 (1762-1775), Former Monarchy. 32217
Brass cast and gilded hilt with openwork shell, crosspiece with cap cover, shell and antenna thumb guard, crossguard in the form of a rifle stock. Hilt cast to imitate filigree. Pommeau decorated on each face with the three-flamed Cross of the Musketeers. Height of the hilt 15.4 cm. Flat blade engraved on each side with "1re COMPAGNIE.DES.MUSQUETAIRES.DU.ROY", inscription framed on each side of the engraved Cross of the Musketeers. Blade length 91.5 cm.
Leather scabbard with two brass fittings engraved with scalloped edges, with buttoned chape for belt wearing engraved with the Company's Cross.
France. Former Monarchy, reign of Louis XV.
Good condition, blade with usual oxidation, partly rubbed gilt, later leather on the scabbard.
