JAPANESE DAGGER KNOWN AS "TANTO", EDO ERA, 19th century. 33560-1
Handle, known as "tsuka," made in two parts of magnolia wood bound together, in which the blade's tang, "nakago," is inserted, and adorned with shagreen, cartilaginous fish leather, "same-hada." Copper pommel, "kashira," decorated with flowers, and copper collar, "fuchi," decorated with lines. Steel guard, "tsuba," in a quatrefoil shape. Copper blade collar, known as "habaki." Slightly curved steel blade with broad cutting edges, "hon zuquri," with a curved tip called "fukura-tsuku." Scabbard, known as "saya," made of two half-shells of magnolia wood with a black lacquer finish speckled with bright green.

Thickness of "tsuba": 3 mm.
Blade length: 38 cm.
Scabbard length: 39.5 cm.

EDO Era, 19th century.
Poor condition, significant loss to the shagreen on the handle, missing lacing, missing peg on the handle, "tsuba" has lost its original patina, blade is worn, upper part of the blade tang is broken.
