General Vincent, as he has already done several times with General Taponier, is demanding bread: "the bread still has not arrived, the bread on one hand and the looters on the other are tormenting me greatly... the hussars who left the entrenchment yesterday have their post a league from there towards Virnenbourg," and shoes: "shoes, shoes... half of the division are marching barefoot..."

* Alexandre-Camille Taponier, born on February 2, 1749, in Valence (Drôme) and died on April 15, 1831, in Paris, was a division general of the French Revolution who particularly distinguished himself during the wars of the first coalition, at the battles of Wissembourg on October 13, 1793, and Kaiserslautern from November 28 to 30, 1793.
