BIOGRAPHY:
Etienne Eustache Bruix, born in 1759 in Fort Dauphin in the French colony of Saint-Domingue and died in 1805 in Paris, was a French sailor and politician of the 18th century. Colonel-General-Inspector of the Ocean coasts, Grand Officer and leader of the 13th cohort of the Legion of Honor. He held the position of Minister of the Navy and Colonies from April 27, 1798, to March 4, 1799.

In 1776, he embarked as a volunteer on a slave ship commanded by Captain Landolphe. He sailed as far as Benin and the Caribbean.
Two years later (1778), he became a naval guard.
He was made a ship's lieutenant and served aboard the vessel L'Auguste when the Peace of Paris ended the fighting in 1783. The following year, he was appointed commander of the Pivert in Saint-Domingue.

Eustache Bruix was deputy division commander to Admiral Morard de Galles during the expedition to Ireland. General Hoche noticed him and appointed him rear admiral in May 1797.
Minister of the Navy from April 28, 1798, to July 11, 1799.
Vice-Admiral on March 13, 1799, he was informed of the Coup d'État of 18 Brumaire year VIII (November 9, 1799). Napoleon Bonaparte appointed him admiral in 1801 and State Counselor in September of the same year.
