Robert François d'Aché, viscount, born on December 24, 1758 in Marbeuf (generality of Alençon), died on September 8, 1809 in Luc-sur-Mer (Calvados), was initially a young officer in the French royal navy before becoming involved in the Norman Chouannerie uprising.
Nephew of Anne-Antoine Aché de Serquigny, he entered the Naval School of Le Havre in February 1774 and became a midshipman in May 1777.
He was promoted to ensign in May 1778 and fought at Ushant on the Dauphin Royal. Later, he was on the ship Zodiaque in the "three battles against Mr. Guichen" against Rodney in the Caribbean (April 17, May 15 & 19, 1780).
A grenadier commission within the Royal Infantry Corps was granted to him on June 1, 1780 in Versailles, bearing the royal signature "Louis".
In 1781, he sailed on the Ville de Paris in de Grasse’s squadron and participated in the two battles of Fort Royal and the Chesapeake Bay, and in 1782, the battle of Saint Kitts in January. That same year, he commanded the Clairvoyant in the Battle of the Saints in April.
He was commissioned as a lieutenant of a ship according to a document established on October 1, 1784 in Versailles, bearing the royal signature "Louis", and on the reverse side, the confirmation of the appointment signed by Louis-Alexandre de Bourbon, Duke of Penthièvre.
A royal authorization for a 6-month leave with pay was issued for him on September 30, 1787 in Versailles, bearing the royal signature "Louis".
Lieutenant of a ship Vicomte d'Aché commanded the 16-gun corvette Maréchal de Castries of the naval station of the Windward Islands (Martinique) in 1792.
