DRAGOON TROOP HELMET, model 1845, Second Empire. 27701
Brass helmet with punch mark "L R" in oval at the back, the gutter at the base of the helmet is of the 1845 model with a prominent molding consisting of a square thread and another round one.
Leather turban covered with a band imitating a printed panther skin, following the 1858 model.
Brass visor and neck guard each bordered by a fold-over strip resting on the outer edge and lined with a waxed sheepskin, green for the visor, black for the neck guard.
Embossed brass crest, consisting of a mask stamped with a flaming bomb surmounted by a relief head of Medusa with a crown of laurel and oak branches above; two finials bearing a decreasing series of eight flutes framed by acanthus leaf beads and palmettes, and in the upper part, a series of laurel leaves; embossed cover plate depicting a braided mane. Crest attached to the helmet by five round-headed steel screws.
Brass crest ornament consisting of a pom-pom adorned with palmettes, a socket with laurel branches and palmettes, and a tassel made of black horsehair.
Each jugular composed of a black varnished leather chin strap with a triple row of chain links consisting of rings with a round sun-stamped rosette, secured to the helmet by a steel screw.
Brass plum-holders shaped like cartridges with foliage decoration.
Black horsehair mane, apparent length about 54 cm.
Interior leather cut in wolf teeth pattern.
Height of the helmet 11.5 cm, height of the band and helmet 19 cm, total height of the helmet 38 cm.

Good condition, some slight dents on the helmet and crest ornament, small stains and moth holes on the band, left leather of the chin strap partly missing, mostly missing inner lining, one rear screw of the plum-holder missing.
