PARIS GUARD HELMET, model 1860 modified on August 13, 1872, Third Republic. 27812-1
Helmet entirely made of steel with brass fittings.
Dome stamped in two pieces, with 2 suction holes inside for ventilation.
Visor and neck guard both rimmed with a brass strip folded over the outer edge. Neck guard strip stamped with "5297".
Front brass headband embossed with a radiant sun. In the center, the arms of Paris are embossed, framed by an oak branch and a laurel branch above a ribbon bearing the inscription "FLUCTUA NEC MERGITUR". At the lower part of the headband, a cartouche bears the inscription "GARDE DE PARIS". Rear headband in plain brass but framed by a relief fillet molding.
Crest composed of two fins embossed with a decreasing series of seven oval-shaped drops, each separated by the same motif but smaller, with foliage and laurel leaves at the back; from the rear of the fin, a twisted molding escapes, rising in the upper part and falling in the lower part.
Each fin is attached to the dome by four brass screws; the mask bears an embossed laurel branch pointing upwards, fixed at the lower part by a brass screw. The covering plate is plain brass.
Ornament of the crest composed of an embossed brass finial with foliage, an embossed brass socket with laurel leaves, and a scarlet horsehair plume.
The chinstraps are made of two strong cowhide leather straps covered with black waxed morocco leather, each covered with an interlacing figure-eight chain. They are attached to the dome by a brass screw and a round brass rosette embossed with a radiant sun.
Brass plumet holder, with a slightly tapered square tube shape.
Complete interior leather liner cut into ten sections, with brass eyelets.
Black horsehair mane approximately 60 cm in length.
