Grenadiers, Voltigeurs, Zouaves, Lancers, Guides, and many more... The last elite corps of monarchic essence that France ever had, Napoleon III's Imperial Guard was closely associated with the splendors of the Second Empire and the final drama of 1870, a decisive period in the shaping of Europe and the present world. Despite this, no comprehensive work had been dedicated to it for over a century, and the treatment of the subject needed to be refreshed. The author Louis Delpérier is a historian familiar with the archives of the Army. He has endeavored to gather previously unseen documentary and photographic heritage, recently made accessible. He also wished to entrust André Jouineau with the creation of infographics plates aimed at satisfying the informed miniature figurine enthusiast. As for the uniforms from collections that make this book a true "imaginary museum," they have been photographed by Bertrand Malvaux down to the smallest details. The markings have allowed the author to attribute the uniforms to their wearers, a significant "first" in the history of uniformology, thus bringing the soldiers of the Guard back to life.
The Imperial Guard of Napoleon III as you have never seen it before! An exceptional luxury work richly illustrated in full color with 55 plates by Armand Dumaresq, 4 original plates by Armand Dumaresq, 27 plates illustrated by André Jouineau, 174 mostly unpublished period photographs (including 22 in color), 529 photographs of collection objects, 142 photographs of uniform markings.
