SHAKO OF THE YOUNG GUARD IMPERIAL FUSILIERS, First Empire. 32606
Black felt body, 20 cm in height. Crown made of very strong waxed cow leather, Ø 23.5 cm, folded over the felt to a height of 3.7 cm. At the bottom of the felt, there is a plain cow leather chinstrap, 2.3 cm wide, with a brass buckle and its prong at the back, buckle height 2.6 cm, width 2.2 cm. Below this buckle, there is a simple calf leather gusset to facilitate the movement of the chinstrap. A rounded visor made of strong varnished cow leather is sewn at the front of the shako, 5 cm wide.
Embossed brass plate (or badge) affixed to the front, representing a crowned imperial eagle holding Jupiter's thunderbolt in its talons. Plate height 11 cm, width 9.5 cm.
Tricolor painted leather cockade placed above the plate and secured to the shako with a clip on each side. Ø 6.6 cm. White circle on the outside, then red and blue in the center.
Below the cockade, there is a loop intended for the plume, attached by a stitch on the shako.
Chinstraps. On each side of the shako, there is a chinstrap composed of a double sheepskin strap, mounted with 16 brass scales cut alternately into two or three festoons, the last one circular at the end. The first scale is 3.5 cm wide, the second slightly less, decreasing in size until the last one, which is 1.7 cm wide. Each scale is held by a flat wire. The chinstrap is fastened by a rosette, called in the 1812 regulation a "big button" of the same metal as the chinstrap, Ø 3.9 cm. It is stamped in its center with a five-pointed star. Each chinstrap is finished with a linen cord.
Inner lining made of black sheepskin, 4 cm high.

Good condition, moth holes and wear on the felt, three missing scales on one of the chinstraps, missing the upper part of the inner lining, posterior chinstrap lace, period plate with posterior fixing studs as well as the leather fixing lace, deformed crown due to time wear causing re-stitching.
