[...]
The Emperor made him a member of the Legion of Honour on June 25, 1804, while he was still serving in the Army of Saint-Domingue. Returning to France, and placed in his rank at the 86th Infantry Regiment on October 4, 1803, he moved to the 66th on November 11 to contribute to the organization of that regiment, and was appointed major on the third additional day. Called to Spain in 1808, he became second colonel on December 8, first provisional colonel on March 3, 1809, and Baron of the Empire on August 15, 1809. Seriously wounded on July 24, 1810, at the Battle of the Coa, the Emperor appointed him an Officer of the Legion of Honour on August 21, 1810. He distinguished himself during the siege of Almeida, then on September 27, at the Battle of Buçaco, where he received a ball that pierced his chest. He was at Fuentes de Oñoro from May 3 to 5, 1811. Confirmed in the command of the 66th Infantry Regiment on November 25, 1811, he followed in 1812 the operations of the Army of Portugal under General Souham, who requested the rank of brigadier general for him in the following terms: This "senior officer, of rare merit and proven courage, acted with the greatest distinction last October 25 in the glorious combat of Villamuriel." Promoted to this rank on January 28, 1813, he joined the Mayence observation corps on June 1, returned to Spain in July, and was seriously wounded on October 7, 1813, at the Battle of the Bidassoa.
