Lancer jacket of the Grand Duchy of Cleves-Berg, First Empire (1807-1813). 32588-2
In green wool, fastening straight at the front with thirteen metal hooks and eyes, with a row of nine half-bell brass buttons on each side of the plastron. Plastron in pink wool lined with green with nine buttonholes on each side. Green wool collar, 8 cm high. Pink wool sleeve cuffs with a point in the center adorned with two uniform buttons. Pink wool turn-backs sewn onto the jacket.
At the back on each side, a green wool strap piped in pink for the belt to pass through. Seams at the back of the jacket and sleeves are pink piped. Scarlet wool shoulder loops covered with silver braid.
Interior lining in green wool and ecru canvas marked in ink with "1 C 7".
Pair of silver braided sub-lieutenant epaulettes consisting of a shoulder piece and a counter-epaulette in dark blue wool.

In poor condition with damages and repairs to the wool, two missing buttons, original shoulder loops but not of the correct model, original epaulettes but not of the correct model, colors faded. Plastron, sleeve cuffs, and turn-backs have been restored.
HISTORY:
The Berg Chevau-Legers were a light cavalry unit raised by the Grand Duchy of Berg on May 21, 1807, by order of Joachim Murat, Grand Duke of Berg, for his personal guard. The unit's numbers increased from one to two regiments and changed status from Chevau-Legers to Chasseurs a Cheval, finally becoming Lancer Chevau-Legers after regimental division, serving alongside the Napoleonic Imperial Guard in Spain and Russia.
