OFFICER'S SWORD OF THE GRENADIERS À PIED OF THE IMPERIAL GUARD, First Empire, 1804-1814.
Gilt bronze hilt. Guard with a "chasseur" style branch, intricately engraved with laurel leaves and acanthus leaves. Quillon in the shape of a pillow engraved with oak leaves, upon which is riveted the profile of Emperor Napoleon crowned with silver laurel leaves, facing left. Cap with a long tail decorated in relief with laurel leaves. Handle made of filigree brass on beech wood.
Curved blade with a fullered back, engraved and gilded on its first third and on both sides with floral motifs and arms trophies with the inscription "Garde Imperiale." Blade length 77 cm. Scarlet cloth throat.
Black varnished leather scabbard with two brass fittings decorated with lines and scalloped edges. Tip with a button for belt attachment. Tip of the scabbard finished with a brass chape.

Very good condition, the gilt on the hilt is well preserved, the Emperor's profile is in perfect condition, not worn and perfectly period-appropriate on this model of sword which was frequently copied, blade retaining 80% of its colors, scabbard leather seams unstitched, scabbard fittings with gilt faded.
